Our annual spring event celebrating our school’s community got a new name and new location this year.  Now dubbed “The TMAA Family Picnic & Spring Spectacular”, we moved it to Rollingwood Park.  Starting with a demo performed by some of our Wee Warriors, the Hwarang Club and the TMAA teaching staff, the event included fun games, a piñata and a great opportunity to hang out and get to know each other better.  A big thanks to the moms on the Parents’ Advisory Committee (Georgia Hicks, Shannon Martinez, Paige Ott, Jennifer Scariano, and Tina Weaver) and my wife Julie for all of their hard work.  They made this a really fun and memorable experience!

Here are a bunch of pictures from Saturday’s festivities:

We had a belt test for adult students this past Saturday.  Great job, everyone!

We had three of our littlest martial artists test for new belts.  They all did a great job!

We held a belt test today and everyone really put their best effort forward.    Great job, everyone!

We held our first Combative Tactic Camp on the weekend of March 3-4 on the beautiful Ott family ranch.  Camping and wonderful scenery set the stage for a solid fourteen hours of training in knife, stick, joint locks and open hand striking.  We all had a great time and covered a ton of material.  Everyone was fried and happy when it was time to come home!

I’ve gotten a bit behind in my blogging for the month of March.  In this entry, I acknowledge a group of Wee Warriors who tested at the beginning of the month.  I was unable to attend since I was out of town, but the feedback I received and the video I have seen tell me that everyone did a great job of focusing and putting forward their best effort.  Awesome!

On New Year’s Eve, we held our annual Shugyo, or ritual purification.  The training was tough, but everyone survived and we welcomed the New Year with sweaty smiles!  Happy New Year everyone!
