Over the past 15+ years, we have seen the impact that TMAA has had on our students, their families and our local community. We have seen students young and old learn about themselves and their potential as they have gotten stronger, fitter and learned self-defense. Children and adults have grown more confident as their bodies have grown stronger and they’ve seen that, as a community, we are responsible for being strong for each other.
The past 15 + years have also been increasingly difficult for any locally-owned business to survive in Austin. We’ve all seen mom-and-pop shops that have helped keep Austin weird get replaced by big box corporations. TMAA has seen its fair share of challenges, but our passion for our community has kept us going.
Even in the face of a global pandemic, our passion and ideals have kept us true to our mission–we put the safety of our students, staff and their families before profit and have constantly sought to offer the best possible experience under the worst possible conditions.
We have continued to find ways to support our students’ growth, no matter what. We have continued to put our community’s safety first, no matter what. We have continued to pay our staff full salaries, no matter what.
But then our HVAC was damaged by the winter storm in February 2021. Our insurance company denied the claim and our appeal. Because our HVAC unit used a type of refrigerant that is no longer used, we had to replace it. We knew our HVAC was old and saved for years for new unit. Unfortunately, those savings are what has kept us afloat through this pandemic, so we no longer had anything to put toward the HVAC. We have been humbled by the support we’ve received through our GoFundMe and through donations here to help us pay for the new HVAC unit.
We are committed to staying open, paying our staff their full salaries during this pandemic, and paying off our new HVAC system. You can help by making a donation (not tax-deductible) below. Thank you so much for your support!
